Whether holding notes with the strength of a suspension bridge, or lightheartedly singing falsetto tones of love; The Ardents is simply a phenomenal band. I had the pleasure of listening to two new singles from the band and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The first single “Wish,” is a perfect blend of instrumentation and melodious undertones. The lead vocalist is tempered, tuneful, and richly controlled as she slowly draws you in to this full-bodied track with full vocal prows immediately. From the guitar driven opening to the climatic vocal presence, “Wish,” is an amazing arrangement of vocals, instrumentation, and talent. While the second track “Shadow of me,” is somewhat nostalgic; with the bands musical arrangement combining sensuousness, melding beautifully with the unique timbre of the lead’s voice as she sings “…just a shadow of me,” with such musical poise and harmony that one would have to wonder if she’s secretly a musical veteran. Amazingly done, this song is easily my favorite because it teeters the genre line, and I could undoubtedly hear it in a coffee shop or a movie. What really draws the listener in on this particular track is the soulful tone, there’s no denying the passion behind this song; it’s exemplified in every note. The controlled vocal presence is sonorous and pure, this band is a rare and talented gem. The music is mature but fun, it’s the sound of resiliently taking control of your art and creating magic and it’s beautifully done.
Forget everything you know about music. Forget that the current status is a bit hazy. Forget that original lyrics are almost extinct. Forget that talented artists are in a constant battle to be heard. Forget reputations. Forget egos and try to focus on the superb artistry that is presented to us through DooGood & Bond’s latest singles entitled, “Complicated, “and“Subliminal;” from their up and comping album Power. I have to admit as a fan of music it was hard to choose my favorite. “Complicated,” is drenched in classic R&B tones; from the smooth vocal presence to the rich and full driven drum cadence, which is only enhanced by the lyrics to the song: “we all have our tribulations with our trials” what an incredible segue to their latest project and a sign of the ever-changing musical times. “Subliminal,” while still vocally smooth is slightly more aggressive vocally and musically. Honestly the sound was a nice unexpected but unique combination that seems to work really well for the duo. In fact, “Subliminal,” was actually anything but what the title suggests. The vocals are strong and edgier than “Complicated,” and the duo sounds confident and boisterous as they chant, “you can’t move me, because I plant the seeds… “over the energy driven production that transcend genres. There’s a slight air of consciousness in the lyrical delivery enhancing but not overpowering the passion of the song and I love it. These two singles definitely left me wanting more and if they are at all a hint of what’s to come from DooGood & Bond, then I expect to hear quality music for years to come.

There’s so much to love about this single, from the playful giggle at the beginning to the beautiful 80’s influenced synths, this song is a classic! Dejhare’s voice not only accompanies the musical score it playfully weaves in and out of the delightful instrumentation and beautiful rhythmic undertones. The drum cadence is light but bouncy adding to the retro pop infused sound but not dominating or effecting the smooth transitions presented throughout the musical sound scape.
The hook is complex simplicity definitely a double entendre of musical joy, the rhythm alone sends the listener from the mundane sound of today’s music back to a simpler time – the 80’s when it was okay to just, “Do What you Gotta Do.” But what stands out the most about this track is the powerful lyrics that remind you not only to, “Do What You Gotta do but to “Wear your mask, but never lose your sight.”
This is a solid track, a refreshing glass of water in the somewhat cottonmouth sound of music we are slowing becoming accustomed to hearing more and more these days. But if, Dejhare’s performance on this track is any inclination of what to expect from this masterpiece of talent, then let us all prepare ourselves for the ultimate decimating of average and the introduction of a new musical legacy that for now we’ll simply call Dejhare.
